Read Morewhen this happens i'm usually in the study doing some late night blogging. if Sonny gets home later than the boy's bed time, i do the same thing, lol. i love having them snuggled up next to me! co-sleeping has always been our thing. they'll be going off to college tomorrow so i'm soaking them all in every chance i get.
helloooooo Nike + friends!!!
seriously, thank you guys for adding me! i made an IG post and told people to join me on the app but have been confined to the dang treadmill and stair master since my last long run like a week and a half ago. i know, ugh!!! i need this accountability and motivation though and seeing people rack up their miles makes me want to get back out there too. i will! especially since my half marathon is quickly approaching.
keep it up, yall! after my 7 miles and the Texans football game....we headed to get our grub on.
how cool is this? i would LOVE to have something this eclectic and awesome for my kitchen!
this spatula art can be found on the wall by the front registers at Jerry Built Homegrown Burgers, West U location. i won't be that person that says 'i never win ANYTHING!!!' (even though i totally said that on the periscope vid we did lol) and it's been a while but ya girl scored a JerryBuilt Homegrown Burgers gift card via their Facebook photo contest recently!
we were super excited to head there for some healthy eats after church sunday.
so we did! look at that spread!
i found JB back in August for Sonny's birthday weekend and we have been like 4 times since then and it's only October. the kids LOVE the food and the gigantic chalk board in the front of the dining room is a great kid-friendly idea. we frequent the West University location inside the 610 loop but there is also a location in the Woodlands, TX as well. this time we had:
fresh fruit for Dego & i (along with some yogurt i brought from home that he is addicted to)
a nitrate-free, grass-fed beef hotdog on a multigrain bun, and.................
one of the best foods ever on earth!!!!! some creamy, mac n cheese.
instead of the Jerry's Cobb, i went with the Houston salad! spring mix, kale, baby spinach, romaine, jicama, roasted sweet corn & black beans pico, queso fresco, avocado, cilantro, and house-made croutons w/ house-made cilantro lime vinaigrette. YAS. i got a salad to save some macros for that mac and cheese of course.
Chiso got a nitrate-free hotdog as well with a side of fries.
you'll have to scroll back up to the aerial pic to see Sonny's burger it was gone before i got a chance to get a solo shot of it, haha. he got the Saint Arnold again and the photo i took from his birthday weekend of that same burger won us the gift card! sweet.
Chiso can't go without leaving his mark on the board.
i just want to thank JBHB for being SO generous to our family; we have enjoyed every meal we've eaten there! i always recommend this family-friendly, healthy joint to everyone we know. highly recommended and fitfoodiele approved.
fall is basically here and it's back to school time, parents! we are all busy. we are all often scrambling to get ourselves and our kids together and out the door in the mornings. been there! actually i'm there every day. now that Chiso has started preschool (no tears from either of us, yay), i make sure he is focused and ready to learn before he leaves the house. how? some brefus! yes, breakfast. it's incredibly important for everybody, so don't downplay it or sweep it under the rug. statistics don't lie, peeps. easy, to-go options in the form of healthy carbs are the way to go, not unhealthy, sugary, prepackaged, instant, frozen junk. they need good, wholesome, nutrient dense foods that their bodies recognize so they can perform at their very best. start this with your kiddos NOW! they will only get busier and busier as each year passes; by the time they are teens and beyond breakfast will be second nature (and hopefully non-negotiable). parents, we must send our babies off right and set them up for success.
if ya follow my blog or my Insta account then you'd already know how much Chiso (4 yrs) despises all vegetables. however, he still loves oatmeal something serious! so when this very special delivery hit our doorstep, Chiso went BANANAS and could not wait to crack it open.
'yummy oatmeal, mommy!!!' yep, Modern Oats was officially in the building. look at all the pretty colors and tasty flavor combos!
Chiso is nowhere near as indecisive as i am and chose 5 berry immediately.
there's an oatmeal cookie recipe on the back of the carton that i'm totally going to try! anyway, if you don't/can't whip out a pot to boil water, then don't.
microwave a mug of water (enough to cover the top of the dry oats) until it's pretty darn hot (bout 2.5 min),
carefully pour it into the carton, put the top on,
and in 3 minutes you've got a nutritious, power-packed, start to your busy day.
i love that:
i whipped up the apple walnut flavor for Dego. there were chunks of apple, flax seeds, pumpkin seeds, raisins and walnuts in each bite.... delish.
aaaand i ate my brekky right along side them. so exciting. lol. if you haven't seen my IG posts, my wedding anniversary is coming up and my hubby hasn't told me exactly what we're doing, but that i should pack a bikini!!!!! so, i wanted to tighten up a lil' bit these last few weeks and get serious with my nutrition. sure i eat oat bran and egg whites every morning anyway, but i miss being able to snack in moderation (quest bars, arctic zero, wheat thins, goldfish crackers, fig bars, dark chocolate covered raisins, kettle corn) whenever i please! maintenance mode (concerning my calorie intake / body fat percentage) is fun and where i belong right now, but i just want to bring my best package to the beach, hahaha. master trainer and 1/3 of the 6 Pack USA team, Brian Egwuatu quickly drew up a customized meal and workout plan for me that has got me wondering if i ever want to compete in a bikini competition again LOL! it's been 3 years or so of not having this many restrictions, but hey, the more change you desire, the more restrictions you must make. it is what it is. plus i'm working on an outrageous 2 week timeline so just know ya girl is over here STRUGGLIN' for the cause! once we are done frolicking and celebrating i will happily return to maintenance beast mode.
i HATE leg extensions!!!!!!!! that is all.
anyway, if you'd like your very own Modern Oats variety pack, you can order them right here via my FFL Store!
we did a Modern Oats Periscope yesterday too; check it out via katch.me along with all my other past scopes if you're interested.

it means you are in the vicinity of some healthy, organic, and all natural goodness!
thanks to Applegate we enjoyed these healthy hot dogs for Dego's first birthday lunch. i had zero faith Chiso (the 4 yr old picky eater) would even take a bite of anything in that box but boy did he surprise us!
my lil' helper was so excited to unpack the goodies.
what's in there? only the best of the best components needed to build a BOMB, healthy hot dog:
it rained cats & dogs outside that afternoon so my grill pan was perfect.
yeah.... i don't think i'll ever be boiling our hot dogs in water ever again. soooo much more flava this way.
stats per dog: 70 cals, 6g fat, 6g protein, 330mg sodium
ingredients: beef, water, and less than 2% of sea salt, paprika, dehydrated onion, spices (black pepper, coriander, mace, nutmeg), nutmeg oil, and celery powder. all recognizable stuff, right!
do you toast your buns? YOU GOTTA TOAST YOUR BUNS. spending just a little extra time on the minor details really makes an ordinary meal extraordinary! i added a little Earth Balance Buttery Spread before toasting.
per Chiso's request, we had an indoor picnic in the middle of the living room floor.
i walked out to the front porch to snag some thunderstorm lighting before we started though.
2% colby jack cheese, green onions, mustard, ketchup went on top of my dog!
so, Chiso ate 2 dogs all by himself! it's like pulling teeth to get him to taste ANYTHING new... so this was big.
next, CAKE! on the way home from the gym that morning i stopped by Whole Foods Market to pick up a mini cake for Dego and ended up with two! did Dego like it? check out our birthday song video below and see ;)

happy 1st birthday, big boy! this day was Dego's actual birthday, but we had another small, family party that following saturday. so, who wants their very own Applegate grilling kit while the summer is in full swing!?

Sprouts Farmer's Market Heights is now open for bidness as of wednesday, march 11th! i planned on being one of the first 200 shoppers at 7am to get 20% off my entire basket...and then i woke up. i wanted Frick and Frack to come with me so that we could all enjoy the grand opening samples and experience together, so i chose to go get my solo, early workout in instead. i posted this still shot via IG,
but here's the vid so you can incorporate this med ball move that works your core into your leg routine too.

i'm so glad i chose to hit the gym cause i had no chance of going the rest of the day. that's usually how my days go though! anyway, we met my mom and aunt there that gloomy day,
and we had a good ol' time shoppin'
and snackin'.
a ton.
of course i'll try some So Delicious strawberry dairy-free ice cream.
i have always loved the size of SFM.
it's just right. neither overwhelming nor cramped.
a sales associate saw how much we loved these roasted and salted okra chips (we kept going back for more samples) so she brought this over to me lol! i put them back though as i would have finished the entire thing in the car on the way home.
trying not to overdo it and get stuck in the matrix, i.e., that infamous bulk aisle.
almost done! what exactly did i bring home? check out the VLOG and seeee:
