
Easy Cheesy Turkey Taco Skillet
Ingredients
- 1 lb lean ground turkey
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 2 tbsp taco seasoning
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1/2 tsp dried oregano
- 1 small yellow onion, diced
- 1 tsp garlic salt
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1/2 tsp cracked black pepper
- 1 cup salsa of choice
- 3/4 cup low sodium chicken broth
- 2 - 3 cups dry pasta shells
- 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
- 1 cup almondmilk mozzarella, shredded (see below!)
- chopped roma tomato, cilantro, & green onion for garnish
Instructions
- set your skillet to medium high heat and add olive oil
- once hot, add onion & garlic and sauté for 3-4 minutes until soft and fragrant
- add ground turkey, taco seasoning, garlic powder, onion powder, garlic salt, cracked black pepper and cook until there is no more pink (about 5-7 minutes)
- cook pasta according to the package directions now. (be sure to add about 1 tbsp of salt to your water for more flavor)
- add broth and salsa. stir, cover, and bring mixture to a boil. reduce heat to low and simmer for 10-12 minutes until sauce is thickened and reduced.
- stir in 1/2 cup mozzarella and 1/2 cup cheddar to the turkey mixture until melted; add pasta and stir until combined
- top with remaining cheese and cover pot until cheese has melted (about 3-5 minutes)
- top with fresh diced tomatoes, chopped green onion, and fresh minced cilantro!

17these are the cheeses that work best for my Easy Cheesy Turkey Taco dish! please note the Cracker Barrel extra sharp yellow cheese is lactose-free but not dairy-free. i am lactose-intolerant, so it doesn’t upset my tummy at all. The Daiya and Trader Joe’s Mozzarella Style Shreds are vegan and completely dairy-free.
