lunch. lunges. life goals.

i love interacting with my followers on Instagram and responding to every single comment and question that comes my way.  i go through as many un-private follower accounts as i can cause i’m generally interested in what yall got goin’ on and also to return the love.  all too often though i get lost in the IG matrix and literally hours later i’m like WHOA  where did the DAY go?! social media is fun and addicting but can be a majooooooor distraction. for me. like i can’t get anything done. like blogging. nothing.

lifegoals

i’ve been shutting down social media altogether for at least 1 day a week minimum. disconnecting is refreshing. and not in the least bit as frightening as i thought it would be.  the major difference in my day? i get stuff done. a ridiculously large amount of stuff. it’s amazing what putting the phone and ipad away can do for my productivity.

Q: how do you tame the social media beast? what works for you?

PhotoGrid_1391644160608

hay there, 22 weeks!  i know i mentioned needing maternity clothes a few posts back, but gaaaaah, i can’t bring myself to buy them.  they are just so….. temporary. and de-motivating. i know, i know… do i wanna be comfortable or stubborn and make a statement? it just so happens that my mom takes the time to read my blog (xoxo, hi mom) and she kindly extended the invitation to take me maternity clothes shopping!  i didn’t turn her down.  i had a Dr’s appt. earlier this week though and since i was out and had time to spare, i stopped by Old Navy to see what they had before meeting a good friend for lunch. no maternity clothes at that location, but they DID have plenty of yoga pants. same thing.

madewithOver (62)

we ate at Red Lobster (hadn’t been there since i was preggo with Chiso in 2011) and as i stated on IG, they have tooooons of healthy options to choose from!  i was one happy fit mom in there reading the menu like a novel.  the downloadable nutritional stats for the entire menu are posted online and can be found right here.  i had the oven-broiled flounder, roasted veggie medley, a baked potato, and a garden salad with ranch dressing on the side. it was as tasty as i remember.  the baby had a cheddar bay biscuit or two; none for me though.

i’m showing sooner than i expected and the simplest tasks (tying my shoes, sitting up in bed, picking stuff up off the floor at home all.day.long) are becoming kinda uncomfy already. after the 6.5 – 7 month mark with my first pregnancy (when i really started to show) i cut out pushups and laying down flat on my back (for chest press, chest flyes, etc) for safety reasons. we’ll see how much further i can get, but for now,   nothing crazy with my workouts, just basic stuff like the vid above!  i’m grateful to be mobile and i’ll continue to take advantage.

lower body moves in the vid: (works glutes, hamstrings, quads, inner thighs)

  • walking barbell lunges with a front raised knee
  • plié squats dragging the trail foot (great inner thigh exercise)
  • reverse backward weighted  lunges

madewithOver (64)

this was one of my first attempts at making whole wheat pizza crust and it turned out incredible.  my Sur la table instructor would have been so proud.

madewithOver (63)

i love the way the pizza turned out but instead of making another one with the leftover dough, i threw it in my grill pan randomly and made flat bread. just.as.awesome. so of course i had to make a sammich. a grilled Kickn’ Chicken breast sammich with roasted red bell pepper, honey goat cheese, and fresh basil.  whatasammich.  i disappointed a few IGers by not sharing the recipe but i have big plans for this dough! entertaining putting together a 2nd ebook. if i could just quit the internet.

happy friday eve ;)

hearty turkey casserole + fit foodie lean legs workout

while i was away at the BE Conference (that post is in the works), my FITzee Foods orders came in!  thankfully Sonny only got to one meal before i got my hands on them :x.  i now have a new favorite to add to my list i wanted to share with ya:

Mom’s Hearty Turkey Casserole

20130922_154116_1

layers of sautéed vegetables, lean ground turkey, rich tomato sauce, and mashed yams all baked to perfection and sprinkled with mozzarella cheese!   low carb and gluten-free.  it was the first meal i cracked open and it reminded me of a healthified shepherd’s pie.  this experience was over way too fast.

*stats: 353 cals, 16g fat, 20g carbs, 5g fiber, 29g protein*

photo (4)

then i hit the gym to combat the massive amount of sugar i ate over the weekend

i created that lean leg routine up there while using the limited hotel gym at the conference, and did it again that day.    grab two dumbbells (preferably 10′s or higher) and a sturdy wall to lean on for the wall sits and have at it.  3-5 times through, no breaks!

CYMERA_20130926_113239

i couldn’t decide which bar to eat for my post workout snack so i ate both!!!! kidding, i had the apples ‘n oats, my fave.

CYMERA_20130926_120504

afterwards, PWO grocery shopping.  which is always a bad idea for me.  i can never wait until i get home to open something up.  you can eat them in the car. you can eat them on a chair. you can eat them ANYWHERE.  get those greens in :)

the FITzee Food’s menu changes frequently because they use local, seasonal and natural ingredients.  make sure to keep checking the online menu to see the latest and greatest culinary delights – they just might become your new favorite.

in those defeated moments, think back to why you even started your journey in the first place.

then keep going, friends!!!

1st lululemon product review!!

20130217_085146

HOT french toast for Chi this morning, oat bran  banana pancakes for me!  and egg whites. you know the drill.

i didn’t measure for the french toast, but i used whole wheat bread dipped in a mixture of egg whites, unsweetened vanilla almond milk, cinnamon, pure vanilla, and vanilla creme stevia.  i topped it with some Walden Farms pancake syrup. Chiso is still in love with bananas and eats a whole one for breakfast every morning, so he can lick his syrupy fingers all he wants since it’s sugar-free!

for lunch, i got fancy with something i make at least 4 times a week cause it’s so QUICK. and i need quick these days.

20130221_121736

egg whites, wild tuna, cucumbers, and tomato on some wheat toast with a dollop of guacamustard (avocado and coarse ground mustard whipped into a mousse) and sprinkled with some no-salt Mrs. Dash fiesta lime seasoning.  you don’t have to make a tuna tower too, but it’s FUN! right!?

 20130221_121405

i’m no trained chef, yall! yeah right!  yall better stop emailing me with those ‘i can’t do all that’ messages!!! first off, you can, and second, who said you had to!? i do this for kicks cause it makes me happy. ok and to impress Sonny.  ultimately though, it also contributes to the fact that wholesome, healthy, nutritious food can taste as great as it looks.  presentation is important to me, but above all else, eat what’s good for you, first.

20130221_121721

SO, thank youuuuuu for your emails and questions!!!  i will continue to do my very best to respond in a timely manner, and even answer some of them in my posts.  how bout i do that right now!

Q: are you a PT (personal trainer)?

A: no, guys! i’m a group fitness instructor!  a PT is something i’ve considered in the past and it’s just not for me…’officially’ anyway, lol!  i am certainly not opposed to the one-on-one thing, but the energy of a riled up group of athletes, the loud music, the microphone…yeah the combo of all that is what i live for.  i am in complete love with teaching classes for 24 Hour Fitness and Lifetime,  however, i do have intentions of teaching local classes (bootcamp, abs, TKB), in due time.

pop some squizats!

one of the many lower body exercises you can do for toned, strong, defined, glutes(butt), hamstrings(back of your legs), and quadriceps(front/top of your legs).

 TIPS:

  • lift your toes in your shoes and press your heels into the floor
  • have an actual seat- like you’re about to sit in a chair
  • keep your knees behind your toes even at the lowest point of your squat
  • back flat, chest up, abs in, head up!
  • your stance determines which part of the legs you work, so switch it up often to target and work more angles (narrow stance, shoulder width stance, wide stance)
  • inhale down, exhale up
  • if your knees cave in toward each other as you squat, the weight is too heavy. proper form first.  always.
  • you can hold heavy dumbbells down to your sides, you can sit the dumbbells on your shoulders (my personal fave), use a weighted barbell across the meaty part of your shoulders, or use no weight at all!

i am THRILLED to now be apart of lululemon’s r & d (research and development) team, whoop, whoop!  i want to be apart of ALL THINGS LULU!!! no, this does not mean that i am employed by lululemon- it means that as an instructor, my feedback concerning lululemon products is valued and considered.  well i have A LOT of that to spare and share ;)

before i get to new items, i’m gonna start my first product review with some things i wear constantly as you can prolly tell via Instagram!  i’m currently working on a new section on my blog that i will dedicate to *drum roll* product reviews! it’ll be composed of healthy food products i eat and use in my own recipes, as well as fitness related gear that i wear, use, and support. sooooo, here we go:

lululemon grey and black Wunder Under Pant (WU’s 2012) – 82.00$

PhotoGrid_1361485525472

  • second-skin fit – feels like next to nothing, literally!
  • four-way stretch
  • designed for yoga, gym, to-and-fro, extremely versatile
  • stylish!

PhotoGrid_1361485579450

  • secret waist pocket (keys, cards, small items, etc.)
  • wide soft waistband for comfort and eliminating muffin top

PhotoGrid_1361489982960

  • light-weight, comfy, moveable, breathable fabric no matter what type of exercise you are doing
  • the contours and embellishments contribute to a longer, leaner appearance <—-my FAVE!

it never fails- every time i wear them out, people really dig the back of these pants, and i did too! which is what sold me on ‘em.  and can i just say i take ‘to-and-fro’ to a whole new level.  gym or not, i slip them on and GO! highly recommended!

do you own a pair?

happy fit & clean 2013!

well, it’s here. the new year is underway…. i’m just happy and grateful to be here. soon as i opened my eyes today i made a Facebook status that said  ‘if you woke up this morning, you were SUPPOSED TO!! thank God! now, go and be YOU.’ i’m excited and so ready to live His purpose for my life. it’s time!

wisdom4

the day after Christmas, i had all 4 of my wisdom teeth removed.  thanks to my driver and brother Matt for this hot photo.  what a day!  i was knocked out and didn’t feel a thing, but the 3rd day was definitely the worst as the swelling was at its peak.  howeverrrr,  it’s all over and done with now FOR GOOD!

20121227_190606

6 days later i’m still healing and struggling to chew and it sucks.  i can only do so on one side for now, and i’m not supposed to eat any crackers, chips, popcorn- anything that crumbles and can get stuck in those crevices back there.  this foodie is ready to EAT.  so while my family gets to eat Papa Johns , i’m on baby food status. how i’ve been surviving:

20121228_220156

oh and let’s not forget i couldn’t exercise! no food = no energy = no activity = boo. this entire pint of Arctic Zero came in handy.

20121229_102047

however for breakfast, i cooked my oats as normal with vanilla creme stevia and unsweetened vanilla almond milk, then i sliced up a banana and threw it in the blender with them. this pic translates to how i felt that morning  BLAH

20121229_220219

before bed one night, i whipped out some cottage cheese to get some protein in.  i made some of my healthy chocolate sauce and drizzled some on top along with a dash of cinnamon.

20121230_211137

aaaand for dinner, i got fancy and made some roasted squash and onion soup.  i roasted the veggies in the oven until soft, tender, and charred, then threw them in the blender along with some low sodium vegetable broth, nutritional yeast flakes, black pepper, liquid aminos, sweet smokey paprika, and sprinkled some goat cheese on top.

20121227_161057

i was trying to make a balanced meal in a glass and this actually turned out ok!  fruit, greens, healthy fats, and carbs.

20121227_162524

i’m outta protein powder, but a scoop of vanilla would have been perfect!

20121227_162553

i ate it with a spoon though, no straws allowed yet.

20121229_100043

no gym for 4 straight days and i felt like a weak, wet, limp noodle.  lost a couple of pounds of both fat and muscle for sure.  this is why i LOOOOVE my complex carbs combined with hitting the weights (oatmeal, sweet potatoes, whole wheat bread, etc) – without them i’m flat and squishy.

20121230_150102

sunday was my first day back in the gym and i made some green eggs for real!  liquified frozen spinach + egg whites then scramble!  shredded a little almond cheese on’em that melted on top.

20121230_170116

got a nice welcome back 700+ calorie burn in my boxing shoes which happen to be perfect for weight lifting.

20121230_174840

definitely getting a few pairs of these in more crazy colors!

20121231_162505

i hope you enjoyed your new years eve WHATEVER you did last night!!  Chiso surprisingly checked out at 9:30… SCORE.  i know! soooo Sonny and i enjoyed a quiet evening at home and popped open a bottle of  the good stuff – sparkling welches red grape juice cocktail. we had a quiet, intimate toast to end a great year and welcome an even better one!

20130101_085302

this morning was the Commitment Day 5k-  did you get up and go run in your city?

20130101_095248

it rained. it was windy. it was cold.

20130101_095301

but that didn’t stop these people from coming out in their raincoats, hats, and umbrellas!  it was still a fair turnout and i was honored to participate.

20130101_103954

i ran with my sister-friend Shabakka; she showed up and showed out!  we had just finished up.

i saw a few familiar faces along the way though and i was definitely looking for some!  i’d like to give a huge CONGRATS and shout out to one of my readers and fam, Ivy!!!  you did it! way to start 2013 STRONG.

20130101_103644
you know i wore my watch. couldn’t tell ya what my time was though…let’s say around 24 min or so.

that’s my holiday wrap up!  i’ll leave you with one of the quotes i’m really feelin’:

‘don’t tell people your dreams, show them.’

here’s to a fit & clean 2013! (thx Dami;)

weekend + peanut butter oatmeal carob chip cookie balls

20121222_080159

i mean i just wanted to take a selfie of my new top from my sweet coworker, Monica!  apparently everybody needed to use the bathroom at the same time.20121222_080014doing his daily ritual.

20121222_075939

love it!  workout gear is one of my fave ever gifts to receive.   it’s Nike, very light weight, has a cool design, and most important, racerback.

20121222_093323

we hit the gym and i decided to take a Total Conditioning class instead of my normal weights and cardio routine.  taking classes and teaching them are completely different for me concerning the workout part!  i do 80%+of the workout with my class, and the rest is coaching, motivating, and walking around checking for great form.  before i began teaching, seeing the instructor struggling with me provided some of THE best motivation to keep me going! so i definitely try to provide that for my members. when i’m up there on that podium, it’s like i feel NO burn, seriously!  my adrenaline goes crazy the entire time. talk about an endorphin high

20121222_104345

where’s waldo?

when i take a class, i feel the burn waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay sooner, LOL.  i feel every thing!  it’s now me vs me and  i go to war with that voice inside my head telling me the burn is too much and to STOP.  but i refuse!

20121222_112305

i did the class, then 30 min of fat burning cardio and got up outta there.

20121222_112221

but not before a progress selfie lol.  Chiso and i had a day of Christmas and grocery shopping to get to, and i neglected to pack our lunches.  i knew we’d pass by that death trap of a food court at the mall and the smell of fries just might win me over after that workout! so, we had lunch at the gym.

 20121222_112714-1

and i’m glad we did! ok more like a snack.  i got a smoothie for the first time in MONTHS.  i’ve enjoyed eating my fruit instead of drinking it..that’s my only reason.  anyway i was super surprised to see that Lifetime now has almond milk substitutions!! what!? they are always one step ahead!

20121222_112955

i got an almond delight which did not hit all my macros for meal 2, but it held me over juuuuust enough until we got home.  don’t worry, i made up for it.

20121222_113531

i chose blueberry and banana for my fruits of choice; the best smoothie combo ever, i know!

20121222_113607

cold and creamy.

20121222_113458

Chiso loves the chocolate flavor of this milk too, lol! (me too)  20121222_113650

‘if it’s here, it’s healthy.’

100% clean menu.

on to the mall!

20121222_131259

i spotted this while we were out shopping and did the most obnoxious double take ever.  miracle slimming system.  no diet and exercise required. 10 minute method. 3.99. it’s called a WORKOUT for a reason, yall!  it requires an effort.  it’s still on the shelf because unfortunately someone will buy this thing.  only real, lasting results come from good nutrition and exercise. that’s it. that’s the secret.

20121222_151530

i spent longer grocery shopping than Christmas shopping lol. i  saw these in the bulk isle at HEB and gave them a taste…score.  they are low in sugar, grain sweetened, carob chips and they taste just like semi sweet chocolate chips!  grain sweetened chocolate covered raisins from Whole Foods have been my guilty pleasure for YEARS.  it was the only place i could find them for a while, but carob has definitely gotten more popular lately!  you’ll see these guys again shortly.

20121222_162919

TODAY was leg day and i had a grilled turkey and almond cheese sandwich on Ezekiel bread, a small red delicious apple, and some tomato & cucumber salad from Central Market before hitting the gym. 20121223_133805

tryin to shred these puppies!!

20121223_142029(0)

had just finished doing my heavy squats here.  i went heavy and did 4 sets of 10 of the following: barbel squats, single leg seated presses, hack squats, alternating dumbbell lunges, deadlifts, leg extensions & curls.

20121223_144601

then i followed that up with about 10 min of abs.

20121223_144923

nice burn!

 20121223_162209

i’ve been thinking about the kind of cookie i wanted to leave out for Santa, and i tried my hand at some no-bake peanut butter cookie balls that turned out darn good!

No Bake Peanut Butter Oatmeal Carob Chip Cookie Balls

the stuff:

  • 10 tbsp quick oats
  • 2 tbsp carob chips (can totally use any kind of chocolate chips)
  • 2 tbsp agave nectar (can sub honey)
  • 2 tsp pure vanilla
  • 2 tbsp unsweetened vanilla almond milk
  • 4 tbsp chocolate PB2

do this:

MIX! form into 10 balls and pop them into the fridge until you’re ready to devour.  give them at least 30 min though.  if they are too sticky for you, add more oats in increments of 1 table-spoon.  they were just right for us though!  recipe makes 10 balls.

serving size = 1 cookie

carobcookieslow sugar, vegan, dairy-free, gluten-free (long as your oats are gluten-free) and YUM-MY.

20121223_171936

Chiso looooooooooooved them!

20121223_171941

him and his faces.

20121223_172211

more, more, more!  20121223_172327

ok we ate this entire batch, but we will make plenty more.

20121223_172341

Santa will wash them down with a big glass of almond milk!

what kinda cookies will you be leaving out for Santa this year?

clean, all natural, guilt-free chocolate sauce

i’m going dip and drizzle crazy.  i’ve googled homemade chocolate sauces in the past and normally they contain some type of oil (usually coconut which is 120 calories 13g fat, 12 saturated), a wack sugar substitute that tastes like chemicals, or just an ingredient i don’t particularly care for.  i took a complete gamble with the ingredients and the measurements and it turned out, well, darn good. so i tried it on what else, some dessert first!

i made a guilt-free arctic zero sundae with soy whip and crushed pistachios.

trial and error is a huge, frustrating part of coming up with your own recipes.  it can get expensive too!!  so getting it right the first time (or at least the first few times) makes me feel good. really good.

would you like to read about my fantastic workout from this morning before i share the recipe? ok great!!! there is something about the peacefulness of the gym super early in the morning.  i get it now.  i can clear my mind, focus on my to-do list not only for that day but my long-term goals, projects, dreams, next moves, pray…talk to God…and get my life together.

it’s that crucial.  minimal interruptions, effective workout, no waiting on the equipment…  it’s never the same in the evenings immediately after work.  even late at night; it doesn’t compare.

symmetry is good.  symmetry is preferred. lol.  my right shoulder area is still more defined than my left, but i’m in the process of fixing it. one way to correct that is to do isolations (one limb at a time).  i used to pass this machine up, but never again!  i added it to my routine this morning and felt different parts of my glutes and hamstrings being worked way more vs. pressing both legs at once.  do NOT let the machines intimidate you- you can’t progress if you don’t try different things.  find a trainer and ask them for a demo if you can’t decipher the directions.

i rushed home to my breakfast and my boys!  made some egg whites and topped them with fat-free feta and parsley.  i kept my banana oat pancakes simple and sprayed them with ‘i can’t believe it’s not butter’ and walden farms pancake syrup. aaand reduced sugar Heinz for my eggs.

for my oatmeal though, i topped it with more fresh bananas, crushed almonds, and a drizzle of my clean chocolate sauce!  mmmm crepes would also be a grand idea.

by the way, my oatmeal is cooked in unsweetened vanilla almond milk/water, and a splash of vanilla.  then i add cinnamon and stir.

ready now?

3 ingredients:

clean, guilt-free, all natural, chocolate sauce

the stuff:

  • 1 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tbsp all natural, raw, coconut crystals (found at Whole Foods)
  • 1 tbsp unsweetened vanilla almond milk

do this:

i suggest you heat the milk first ( you can nuke it for 15-20 seconds) THEN add the cocoa powder and crystals.  the cocoa won’t absorb into the milk if it’s cold and you will be stirring forever cause it  just won’t mix. just like oil and water. you can either add more or less almond milk- the consistency is up to you.  i found that after mixing these exact amounts together (get all the lumps out) and letting it sit in the fridge for less than 30 min, it was the perfect consistency for dipping, pouring, or spooning it straight

the sky is the limit!   double, triple, or quadruple the recipe as needed, just adjust your stats accordingly.

strawberries and chocolate – classic combo.

banana chunks, dipped and topped.

raw unsweetened coconut flakes, crushed almonds, crushed pistachios.

had way too much fun today.  happy friday eve :)

journey to clean(er) eating

how it starts….

how it ends.

i got the baby basket on purpose but i stuffed it full like i knew i would.  going in and coming out with one thing is a complete joke.  there is always something else we need!! or want.

the journey to clean(er) eating starts in the grocery store.  remember these tips when you go shopping:

MORE fresh fruits and vegetables

LESS processed foods (low to no)

lean proteins – chicken breasts, ground turkey, seafood, beef,

healthy fats – avocados, mixed nuts, olive/coconut oil, natural peanut butter

whole grains/fibrous carbs – oatmeal, sweet potatoes, quinoa, beans, whole wheat pasta, high fiber cereal

on Sunday’s trip, i got everything on my list plus a few more items:

oh and Ezekiel sprouted grain sesame bread. left it off the list, oops.  aaaand i did get a few indulgent items for Sonny for winning his show this past weekend… i know you see them   oreos, gummy bears, and cookies n cream ice cream.

i have always wondered why pumpking pie spice is so freakin high!!! this 1.12 oz jar is like 4.99. for no reason. this is what i’ve always bought.  i was on my way to get some magic pop when i passed a table of seasonings and saw a big bucket of this:

what! now 4.99 a  POUND is more like it!! i grabbed a couple bags. man i love finding great deals.

yesterday, i applied that same ‘squeeze the muscle with every rep’ technique to my upper body workout and man did it give me a good muscle pump.  try it!!

one of my fave exercises (i’m sure my class members HATE them by now lololol) are W presses with dumbbells.  make a W with your arms (similar to my pose above) holding a heavy dumbbell in each hand.  move both arms up / out simultaneously without going higher than your head with the weights. then, retract them back in towards your head.  keep your elbows in front of your body.  makes for great shoulder/collar bone/back definition!  the racerback style is my absolute fave to wear, regarding my tops, and this exercises targets that area nicely.

dinner that night was a baked sweet potato stuffed with seasoned chicken breast chunks, green onion, and topped with fromage blanc. french cheese!  i also had a side of steamed zucchini.

yum.

i found the fromage blanc at Whole Foods while looking for the quark that they didn’t have.  the cheese lady told me that fromage blanc was the closest thing to it.  i picked it up and read the stats,

and they were even better than the quark!  heck that’s better than sour cream and greek yogurt!  greek yogurt does have a ton of protein, but it also has sugar too.  anyway, awesome find.  HEB has it also.

today…cardio, legs, and stretching.

i could not WAIT to get home to dinner to make me a sandwich.   that was all i could think about.

i made a big pan of baked chicken breasts this morning, so all i had to do was cut it up and put my sammich together.  i seasoned each breast with something different (bbq, lemon pepper, garlic and herb, smokehouse maple, and montreal steak seasoning) and some dried parsley.  350 degrees for 1 hr.

finally!  seasoned chicken breast, avocado, tomato, almond cheese and Trader Joe’s pumpkin butter all on toasted Ezekiel sprouted grain sesame bread.  i also had half a sliced apple and some Justin’s maple almond butter for dipping.

lastly, i munched on some of that vegetable medley bagged salad with some roma tomatoes on top.

sooooo, turkey day is in like 2 weeks!!!

are you hosting, going to someone else’s house, or going out to eat for TG?

glory to God, Sonny won 1st place in his division at the Ft. Worth MuscleMania bodybuilding show this past weekend!! here’s Chiso congratulating him and apologizing for sleeping through the entire evening show in mommy’s arms.  630-930…what a nap

i’m pretty proud of this guy.

i was screaming as loud as i could!!  great show and amazing jobs done by all.

here are Sonny and some of the other competitors soaking in their win.  cloud 9 status!

Chiso clearly just wanted to play with that ball, but we got a good family shot outside the venue during intermission break.  immediately following the show, Sonny’s team went to dinner at Blue Mesa  to celebrate their accomplishments, weeks of hard work, dieting, and training.  both of our phones were almost dead after our long day, so my camera flash was toast.  horrible lighting for these next few pics, ugh.

along with Sonny’s show day meals, i prepped all of mine for the trip as well.  and this meal was not apart of the plan lol! neither was the pizza Sonny brought me from backstage earlier.  nevertheless,  i started with a  dinner salad of field greens topped with tomatoes and red onion.  balsamic vinaigrette was on the side.

Sonny got the Perfect Tortilla Soup which had chicken, tomatoes, jack cheese, smoked chiles, and fresh lime in chicken broth.

CHIPS. sweet potato, tortilla (blue and flour).  and honestly they were nothing to write home about.  it’s just that they were in front of me and i was hungry!!! snacking ensued. excessive snacking.

having no flash totally took away from the dish, but it was way tastier than it looked.  i got the Spa Chicken and Spinach Enchiladas with asparagus and grilled sweet potatoes.  the Spa section on their menu was detailed with nutritional stats and lighter options.  i totally appreciated that.  why don’t restaurants just do this for the entire menu?  we’re prolly better off not knowing in some cases!

Sonny asked the server for the dish with the most food and variety like he always does and ended up getting a sampler platter.  like he always does. lol.  the Mesa Sampler came with a carmelized onion quesadilla, mixed nachos, and chicken taquitos.

so on the way back to our hotel WE wanted something sweet and went through a Mc Donalds drive through in hopes to get some ice cream.   the machine was already closed down for cleaning for the night.  that has happened to us SEVERAL times… we should know the darn schedule by now.  so we ended up at the next best thing… actually it’s prolly the best thing lol.

we split a whatasized vanilla shake and i’m pretty sure i slurped down 70% of it!  i hadn’t had one in YEARS.  it was…. incredible.  Sonny mentioned going to In-N-Out burger too (hey we don’t have one in Houston) but i had to put my foot down and call it quits.

we got some rest and headed home the next morning, but not before grabbing breakfast.  i took a selfie of my abs before we left though and i wasn’t surprised that they were still flat.  after i eat crap, it pops back up to say hello on me 3-4 days later.  for a while i had myself fooled!  the symptoms may be delayed  (bloating, gas, bubble guts, pimples, fatigue, flat muscles, heaviness) but they ALWAYS come.  always.

Sonny wanted to start breakfast with a BANG but Ihop was the  best option that popped up on our GPS.  i was somewhat relieved and i’m also glad there were no Shipley’s around

now THIS is a breakfast of champions.  ^^^ there’s one right there, tee hee.  Ihop always did have crazy portion sizes.

Sonny smashed a steak omelette topped with cheese and tomatoes,

and a stack of what Ihop is famous for…. mmmmmm.

we got Chi a kiddie sampler of baby cakes, scrambled eggs, and turkey bacon which he did NOT like and took off his plate immediately.  i’m not a fan of the texture of turkey bacon either…i don’t blame him.

time to get back on track.

after examining this pic closer, that totally looks like a bug in my oatmeal!!!!! LOL. i remember seeing it after stirring my bananas in though and it was definitely an oat.  i think.  i hope.

i also got a spinach, mushroom, and tomato egg white omelette that was pretty amazing.  i’m am in complete love with their Simple and Fit menu. look at all those options!!! the website is super user-friendly. seriously, GO IHOP! 4 thumbs up from fitfoodiele.

the oatmeal came with butter, brown sugar, and milk on the side, but i didn’t use them.  you know what i used!  packet of stevia from the stash in my purse.

didn’t bring any Walden Farms syrup with me, but they did provide sugar-free syrup.  again, GO IHOP!  HEB sells Cary’s syrup as well, FYI.

we hit the road and made it home safely, thank God.  THEN i hit the gym solo to get a head start on that vanilla shake before it did too much damage lol.  Saturday was a full rest day and i did absolutely nothing for the first time in a while, so i was ready to go and pump some iron.

one of the bodybuilders gave this advice to the crowd at the show:  ‘it’s not about who can squat the most.  it’s not about who can bench press the most.  eat right, squeeze the muscle with each rep, and train hard.’  it was short, sweet, and really hit home.  during that workout, i did my best to squeeze my glutes, hams, quads, and calves with each rep. i felt and saw a difference immediately.  oooh it burns. STILL feeling it.

i did legs and cardio and got up outta there.  will be switching up my routine next week though-  time for something new.  next i hit up the store cause my Sunday just ain’t right without some grocery shopping.

CONGRATULATIONS SONNY!!!!! XOXO

tidbits

saturday morning started out with bananas and Justin’s almond butter. Chiso killed these things one by one and so did i! what a yummy combo.

i sprinkled some coconut flakes on a couple of them too.

we’ll be having these more often.

it was leg day @ the gym-

i didn’t even get to finish though which makes me so upset!!! i had to get to my hair appointment (time to chunk the deuce to this  weave)  and i was scolding myself for setting it so early in the day.  rushing through my gym time is the worst.  this is what i did get done though using moderate to heavy weight:

barbel squats 5 x 12

calve raises 5 x 12

machine  leg press 4 x 12

barbel dead lift 4 x 12

then i went into the empty workout room and did three full circuits of this holding 15 lb. dumbbells:

walking lunges forward/backwards (used length of room)

stationary reverse lunges (12 each leg)

stationary side lunges (12 each leg)

15 jumping squats (put the weights down 1st)

rest then repeat.

i ended it with 20 minutes of fat burning cardio on my second fav machine, the stairmaster. i have grown to love this thing.

700+ cals later, crotch-sweat status was achieved and we were outta there!

on our agenda for saturday was a trip to see the Rat.  { happy very 1st birthday, Levi!!!! } we hit up Chuck E. Cheese, aka, CEC, for a family birthday party.  i ate a quick meal in the car on the way of canned salmon (chicken of the sea), avocado chunks, and some asian stir fried veggies.  i think it’s some rice cheese up under there somewhere too.  i sprinkled Mc Cormick’s BBQ seasoning on it and it came out waaaaaaay too fast. whoops.

yeeeeah Chiso pretty much stayed cooped up under one of us for the most part.

he is not a fan of Chuck yet.   couple more trips and he’ll be kicking CEC in the shins like the rest of the kids.   and yes, the weave was still present in my head at that point, lol.  i ended up having to push my appt. to the following day.  sooooo i rushed through my workout for nothin

but i’m glad i got somethin in cause WE enjoyed the ‘peeza’ and cupcakes.

back on track this monday morning though, right.
i hope you started your day with some GOOD stuff- i had a spinach and tomato egg white omelette, my oats made with vanilla almond milk, bananas, cinnamon, and vanilla creme stevia, and a cup of green tea.

more healthy recipes and are en route-   pumpkin chili, cauliflower crust pizza, salmon cakes, and pumpkin brownies.  it’s also time for an updated oatmeal post as i make it a liiiittle different now, huh.

wackday

wednesday was one of those days.  when i don’t get enough rest my world comes crashing down.  i wanted to say screw this whole competition, quit, and eat an entire papa johns pizza.  i want to eat an entire pizza every day, but that day i threatened myself out loud.  it just got worse and worse as the day went on.  i worked out with my trainer that morning, and i somehow hit the gym in the evening for round two.

i took a pic just so i could remember this very day and my mood at the time.  i can laugh at it now, but i’m pretty positive i’ll feel like this again or worse in the next few weeks as my journey to the stage draws near.  and come on, a journey wouldn’t be a journey if it didn’t have a mixture of good, bad, high, and low days.

keep. pressing. forward.

that was prolly my worst workout of this entire journey though.  i could barely get my heart rate up to my fat burning zone, and i literally struggled to keep it there, which is always relatively easy.  after my last meal that night, THANKFULLY Chiso calmed down enough to go to sleep early with me even though he took a late nap.

Thursday was a new day. a better day.  a high carb day.  i DID get some good rest the night before and felt tons better, mentally and physically.

Chiso wasn’t the only one enjoying fresh fruit that day :)

this is just some of his meal… sweet potatoes, avocado, and his fav, strawberries.

i got in some posing practice that night after my cardio.

POW, stick that hip out there!

i can be silly/goofy/flirty, but being serious/sexy/flirty WITHOUT laughing and feeling like an idiot is the tough part.  how i will ever manage to sell it and make it believable on stage is beyond me, but i have 3 weeks to figure it out.

i feel wack taking these pics of myself but who do you think i am, june ambrose!? i need a picture snapping assistant.  sometimes.

this will be my final pose before exiting the stage. kidding.

i didn’t even think to bring my show suit with me-  my coach said i should be practicing in it or at least less clothing from here on out though. she’s absolutely right cause i could not see my body the way i needed to.

some days i feel way too skinny, some days i feel like i could maintain this weight.  either way, Sonny reminded me that if i do fall off the wagon after this competition, i now have the tools and the knowledge to get my body back where i want it to be. well, what could i say after that lol?

i made more banana pancakes this morning cause they make me happy.  and i need all the happiness i can get!!!!

i think i have made/eaten them for the past week and i can’t stop.  until i can add more crazy ingredients to my batter, i’ll have them just like this up until the show.  so YES, more pics of pancakes are coming, you’ve been warned.

have you made these pancakes yet!? what did you put in yours?

*****HAPPY FRIDAY*****
