wienervention – the cleanest hot dog i’ve ever eaten

another early gym date accomplished this morning and officially 1 month postpartum! i expect to get a lot done today.
CYMERA_20140717_115153

i had my usual preworkout snack, some hot, magical coffee, and headed out for an hour of treadmill intervals. i alternated btw:

5 incline @ 4 mph – 5 minutes

15 incline @ 3 mph – 5 minutes

walking IS boring but there are ways you can rev it up.  i always swing my arms vigorously, walk heel-to-toe with a wide stride, and i never hold the side rails either. that’s cheatiiiiing ;)

can i do a blog #throwbackthursday? i’m doin’ it anyway!

**********

while we were headed home from the hospital last month with our brand new baby boy, something beat us there- my Wienervention Kit from Applegate!!!

that nostalgic red and white pattern always reminds you of what? a summer picnic, yep.

CYMERA_20140716_222414

however, the Houston heat was too much and i just wanted to lay down somewhere and stuff my face in the AC.  i’d like to give a gigantic high-five and thank you to one of my favorite natural and organic brands, Applegate, for the goods. i knew the kit was on the way, but it slipped my mind after giving birth and all.  my mom and aunt were at our house tidying up and waiting to help out with our new family member, so unbeknownst to Sonny & i, they went ahead and cracked the kit open and prepared a welcome home lunch for us! perfect timing, right?

20140619_185431_1

i actually used to avoid hot dog wieners for this very reason…  i’ve always thought of them as the wack parts of meat that didn’t make the cut all blended up together with fat and other UFOs.  i would only have them every blue moon, like july 4th or memorial day at somebody’s BBQ. at home? not so much.  also, reading ‘mechanically separated turkey, chicken, or beef’ in the ingredients list is not very appetizing. thank God we have many healthier options to choose from these days; these Applegate wieners are in a league of their own! a wienerventioW was overdue.

CYMERA_20140716_222536

rest assured these top-notch dogs are:

  • all natural
  • contain no antibiotics
  • humanely raised beef fed vegetarian/grain diet
  • gluten-free
  • casein-free
  • contain no fillers
  • contain recognizable ingredients! every single one.
  • really, really tasty.

CYMERA_20140716_222701

nailed that presentation.

they also sent along condiments, cause you can’t build a stellar dog without them.

20140619_185515_1 for the buns, we had a choice of Rudi’s Organic Bakery Multigrain or White hot dog buns!  i loved them both and you can snag a coupon for a bag of your choice right on their website. 20140620_144055_1from the bun, to the condiments, to the wiener, this is THE cleanest hot dog i’ve ever eaten.

time to change the meat you eat and give Applegate a try.

weekend recappy cap – yoga & burgers

yoga

i got my vinyasa yoga on saturday after my weight lifting sesh, haaaay! actually sticking to my yoga resolution and i plan to keep it up. i got dizzy and lost my balance several times but the tin woman will not give up.  the class was actually called Hot Vinyasa Yoga but because the room is used for all different types of classes all day long (and one had just ended before we started), the instructor could only turn the heat up as soon as the class began. so it was more like warm vinyasa yoga  . besides, i set up my mat up close to the door to avoid overheating which is a preggo no-no.

i restocked some of my dried herbs at Sprouts Farmer’s Market on my last grocery trip a couple of days ago and i wanted to share my staples.  i got all that for less than 5 bucks and it will last me a good while. buying these specific herbs in the bottles are just too expensive for the deal you can get in bulk yall. do the math!

madewithOver (19)

house guests often = burger time in my world.  i know i have 49 trillion patty recipes already but what can i say.. sammiches are my thing!  for these healthy turkey burgs i used the Alvarado Street Bakery sprouted grain buns (from Sprouts), mashed avocado, alfalfa sprouts, vine ripe tomatoes, Bordon 2% colby jack cheese, spicy brown mustard.

madewithOver (21)

for the patty:

  • 1 lb extra lean ground turkey breast

  • 1 tbsp Weber all-natural Gourmet Burger seasoning

  • 1 whole egg (or two egg whites)

  • 1 tsp sriracha

  • 1/2 tsp onion powder

  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder

  • 1 tsp parsley

  • 1 tsp cracked black pepper

SO MUCH FLAVOR IN THERE!!

*combine it all up in your mixing bowl, let it marinate for about 20 minutes first. mold into patties then cook them up in your no-stick cooking spray coated skillet for 3-4 minutes on each side (depending on the size of the patty).*

my hubby is finally home again from Brooklyn after reppin’ H-town in the nationwide Red Bull Midnight Run basketball tournament! über proud of him and just happy to have him back.

hope you had a blessed weekend and are ready to tackle a new week.  remember, positive thoughts and actions are the seeds that will produce POSITIVE RESULTS.  keep the negativity out.

p.s. we find out what we’re having in 3 days!!!! at first i didn’t care now it’s driving me NUTS

part II: core exercises for preggo patties and newbies

CYMERA_20140110_162501         well i didn’t think produce coupons existed, but HEB made that dream a reality! 3 dollars off 8 or more in produce. nice.  i couldn’t wait until this weekend to go grocery shopping because our pantry and fridge was crazy bare, so i went last night and got it done.  i checked online for some coupons before leaving and i’m glad i did.

madewithOver (42)

we also stopped by Walmart where i spotted these all natural Weber seasonings.  gluten-free, low sodium, and 100% sea salt used.  i caught wind of them via Instagram and chose the Gourmet Burger and Boston Bay seasonings first.  everyone is raving about the Kickin’ Chicken so i’ll be trying that one next. these big 5.75 oz bottles cost just as much as the Mc Cormick and Mrs. Dash 2.5 oz bottles! what a bargain.

this evening’s pre-workout meal before taking a Barbell Strength class at the gym: a big bowl of sautéed kale, avocado, green onion, and some Sweet & Spicy Tangerine Shrimp from last night’s taco dinner.  i’m still perfecting the shrimp recipe and will post it here soon,  you know it.

more core videos for ya as promised!

using dumbbells:

for floor oblique twists: sit up straight, chest up, and lean back 45 degrees before executing. complete the opposite the side the same way.

12 R & 12 L;  3 X 24

standing ab exercises:

for standing oblique crunches: pull your elbow down to your knee and squeeze your glute when your knee is at its highest point.

slow tempo for 8, fast tempo for 16  then repeat 2 more times straight.  switch sides and do the same thing.

the side bends keep my lower back loose, limber, and flexible.  if you’re preggo, don’t worry about using super heavy dumbbells here at all.  10′s work great. stand up straight, chest lifted, and don’t slouch or round your back!

madewithOver (44)

i can do that one!!!! please let me do that one  .

speaking of shows though i have something in the works i am super excited to share.  a vision that has never been more clear to me, finally!  in due time though.

HAPPY FRIDAY AND HAPPY WEEKEND!

fit n’ crispy chicken parm

Italian food. its been on my mind lately.

20131203_094417_1

i really wanted something heavy like a big pan of cheesy lasagna but this nipped that craving right in the bud.  it’s lean, it’s fit, it’s crispy, it’s savory, and it’s good.

20131203_095225_1

making your own bread crumbs is super simple and recommended.  i used some toasted Sara Lee 45 Calories & Delightful bread for mine.

20131203_104037_1

perfect. no frying needed! i had planned to sear the chicken on both sides in my cast iron skillet (before putting them into the oven to finish) cause i wanted that crispy, crunchy exterior, but omitting that step still produced the same results. SCORE.

20131203_104949_1

i used Classico all natural, fire roasted tomato & garlic sauce,

20131203_105233_1

and topped the breasts with a heaping tbsp of sauce, a few spinach leaves, and a big slice of mozzarella almond cheese.

madewithOver-1

i know chicken parm is usually paired with some variety of pasta, but i had a big, unbaked spaghetti squash sitting on my counter i needed to use.

madewithOver-3

tender, Italian juiciness.  recipe time :)

fit n’ crispy chicken parm

the stuff: breadcrumbs

  • 4 slices Sara Lee 45 Calories & Delightful wheat bread, toasted (can use gluten-free bread)
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/4 cup light parmesan cheese (optional for a dairy-free dish)

the stuff: chicken

  • 4 large boneless & skinless chicken breasts (pounded and flattened)
  • 1/2 jar of all natural Classico Fire Roasted Tomato & Garlic sauce
  • 1-2 tbsp Earth Balance Organic Whipped Buttery Spread
  • 3 oz Lisanatti Mozzarella Almond Cheese
  • 1 cup fresh spinach leaves
  • 1/2 tsp cracked black pepper
  • 1 tbsp Bragg Liquid Aminos

madewithOver-2

do this: breadcrumbs

  1. toast slices of bread until crispy, not burnt but no longer soft and chewy.
  2. break them up into pieces by hand and toss them into your food processor.
  3. add the onion powder, garlic powder, parmesan cheese, and Italian seasonings.
  4. blend until you achieve a breadcrumb-like consistency and set to the side.

do this: chicken – preheat oven to 400 degrees now!

  1. pound and flatten thawed chicken breasts (under a towel, in plastic wrap, in a plastic bag, etc) with your mallet until about 1/2 in thick.
  2. place them into a large bowl and pour the liquid aminos and melted whipped butter spread over the top, coating evenly.
  3. spread out the breadcrumb mixture onto a large, flat plate.
  4. spray your baking pan with no stick cooking spray and set it on your work station.
  5. take each chicken breast and dip/press them into the breadcrumb mixture coating both sides evenly.
  6. place them neatly into your pan, flat.  if they are touching it’s ok but don’t overcrowd your pan.
  7. sprinkle cracked black pepper onto the breasts.
  8. place pan(s) into the oven and cook for 20 minutes on one side; flip, and cook for an additional 10 minutes.
  9. remove chicken from oven (make sure they are done in the center) and remove the breasts from the pan.
  10. pour tomato sauce into your pan, covering the bottom completely.
  11. place chicken breasts back into pan on top of sauce.
  12. top them each with 1-2 tbsp more of sauce, a few leaves of spinach, as well your cheese (you can shred it too, your call.)
  13. place back in the oven for an additional 10 minutes or until your cheese is all bubbly and melty!

buy 4 get 1 free! + Sprout Channel

only two more Thursdays ’til Turkey Day yall!

this is my highlight meal for the week:

madewithOver (27)

this filling, savory meal is the Baked Penne with Sausage and Kale from FITzee Foods.  the kale part immediately sparked my taste buds!  whole wheat penne pasta, chicken italian sausage, and fresh kale all baked together with a dairy-free cream sauce, mushrooms, onions, sun-dried tomatoes, and fresh herbs. i’m lovin’ it.

—–> a ‘buy 4 meals get the 5th free‘ deal is happening right, right now! take advantage, fit friends.<—–

i would just love to express my joy for the Sprout channel real quick.

pbs_kids_sprout1

my sis-in-law told me about it months ago and after the last adult joke i could stand from Sponge Bob i decided to look it up in our cable directory.

CYMERA_20131114_083803

3 words. WHAT A BLESSING.  Chiso has fallen head over heels in love with, well, every single show.  his absolute fave is Caillou.   Caillou games have mysteriously appeared on the iPad and neither Sonny nor myself put them there.  and then there’s Tree Fu Tom:

so even if we don’t head to the park, he can still move and shake indoors! that makes me one happy fit mom. but not happy enough to clean out that file cabinet.

Chiso sings,  interacts,  learns, & plays SO much more so than when the TV was on Nickelodeon or  Disney.  the Sprout channel caters to his crowd (24 hour pre-school channel) and i have really seen a different side of him these past few weeks.

Screen Shot 2013-11-14 at 3.36.03 PM

they have a fantastic, interactive website too! games, videos, and next on our agenda is printing out some of the blank coloring sheets provided of some of his favorite characters (soon as we get some more ink.) i am fond of several of the shows myself; especially The Goodnight Show .   i really like that they keep some of the classic shows like Sesame Street in rotation too. ooooh the memories. i am just too happy about this and wanted to share.

parents, please check and see if your cable provider hosts this channel for your little one!  if you’re already a fan, which show does your little one love the most?

i thought the original quote by Ellen DeGeneres ‘i really don’t think i need buns of steel. i’d be happy with buns of cinnamon.’ was freakin’ hilarious.  but i want both dang it, hence this ecard i made. it CAN be done!!! right?

bbscold

i taught my Barbell Strength class this morning as usual and it was SO DANG COLD outside!!!! ok it was like 50 degrees but after a long Houston Summer i’d say that’s pretty cold.  i wanted to teach in my Lulu jacket but after the warm up i was good to go.   when i pulled up to the gym there were so many empty parking spots. this is the kinda day where if i wasn’t an instructor i’d be home in my warm bed too, shoot.  i think i say that too often  .however, class attendance was spectacular. i was so proud and kept thanking my members for just being there.  the weather can be a big factor in determining class attendance; especially at the crack of dawn and especially in the rain. their desire to keep their health a priority spoke volumes to me.

sooooo, it’s that time again. new FITzee Foods meals comin’ at cha for the month of November. coming home to this box at my doorstep always makes me all giddy!!

image (43)

this was the first meal i cracked open last weekend that i have already blasted over twitter and facebook, i know, i know. just reminding you how light, filling, nutritious, and Paleo friendly it is/was.

however… i found a new menu item i have fallen head over heels for: Green Chili Enchiladas.

image (45)

oh yeah. whole wheat tortilla. pinto beans. green chilis. corn. carrots. onions. roasted tomatillo sauce. shredded, seasoned chicken breast chunks. spices. CHEESE. it tasted like it came straight from a restaurant kitchen!  i stopped by Trader Joe’s on my way home this morning so i cracked open some of the 0% greek yogurt i got and plopped a dollop on top. perfection.

image (46)

Chiso wouldn’t come anywhere near my fork but he did smile for our picture.  it’s such a crazy beautiful day so we ate outside on the porch.

also, thanks to Michelle for the cute, fitted FITzee t-shirt i’m rockin’. #represent

Q: is the weather a big deterrent concerning getting your butt to the gym? be honest.

all natural + BOO

image(1)there are so many cute Halloween snacks on Pinterest and IG and this is as creative as i could get this morning.  that rain pouring down outside explains that face-  it’s supposed to last all day here in Houston!

anyway, we’ll be carving pumpkins indoors tonight then.

***because it took me all day to get this post up, i’m happy to announce the sun is now, in fact, OUT!****

madewithOver(1)

up early livin’ the FITzee lifestyle this morning and getting my workout in before the busy day begins.  so, how did i get that sweaty?  you wanted a cardio workout so you got it!

photo (10)

repeat this 3x’s through, but in between each set:

  • run one full lap around your track (or time a 2 minute run at a steady pace through your neighborhood)

OR

  • 2:10 minutes on the treadmill at 6.5 mph.

leave a comment and tell me what a SWEATY good time you had doing this!

*********************

you should know by now that FITzee Foods meals are prepared with all natural ingredients.  why is this so important though?

because all-natural refers to food that is:

  • minimally processed
  • additive-free
  • chemical-free
  • no genetic manipulation
  • hormone-free
  • antibiotic-free
  • sweetener-free
  • food coloring-free
  • flavoring-free

i researched some of the more popular,  frozen, pre-packaged  ‘tv dinners’ and i’d like to show you something:

CYMERA_20131031_165257

(clockwise from the top left) Healthy Choice, Lean Cuisine, Michelinas, & Smart Ones.

scary, huh  .

processed foods have a completely different affect on my body, and you will notice a gigantic difference too once you start to eat whole, all natural foods on a consistent basis.  they slow my digestive system to a halt, they’re not as filling which intensifies my hunger or cravings ( usually with sweets/sugar), and they tend to bloat me from the high soduim or sugar levels.  besides, having to google ingredients before eating your meal kinda makes it less and less appetizing.  FITzee Foods keeps it fresh, all natural, and simple, but that means anything BUT bland, friends.  see for yourself just how flavorful and filling these meals are.

CYMERA_20131031_170302

now that’s an ingredient list i can dig and feel great about sharing with my growing fam bam. no additives or preservatives also means a shorter shelf life, so this is just a reminder to either refrigerate, freeze, or eat your FITzee meals immediately upon arrival.  if frozen, they are good for up to two more months.

you can check out the FITzee Foods Facebook & Twitter pages, or click here to order!

BE SAFE TONIGHT ;)

Banana Pecan Chocolate Chunk Muffins

how was your monday?

madewithOver (20)

the ‘monday blues’ do not exist!  Mondays only suck if you let them- accept what you can’t change and change what you can’t accept.

takeanothershot

whether it’s your career, your relationships, or even something you want to change within yourself, start by making a CONSCIOUS effort to be positive with your actions, expressions, and words.  positivity breeds positivity. don’t dwell on the negative and what went wrong.  break the habit.  talk about your joys and count your blessings!  and if what went wrong is worth it, fix it, but keep building and focusing on the NEW.

madewithOver (17)

i finally started the online defensive driving course (gag) task i’ve been putting off since i got the ticket back in july.  i thought that horrible procrastination habit was supposed to fade out as you got older, i mean really.  during one of my countless mini breaks i went and made some of the best homemade muffins i’ve had….ever. look!

livin’ the FITzee lifestyle

A FITzee is a busy professional, entrepreneur, mom, dad, athlete, weekend warrior, fitness enthusiast, and anyone else who seeks a nutritious, all-natural, and great-tasting alternative to the world of over-processed foods.

CYMERA_20130825_222135

i’m willing to bet you’re a FITzee too if you’re following my blog! ;)

on those crazy-busy days that we all tend to have, FITzee Foods has been my saving grace.  i appreciate those moments when all i have time to even do is reach into the fridge and heat up a  FITzee meal for myself or my fam.   i recognize all of the listed ingredients and nutritional stats posted right on the tray, which is something that has become second nature to me.   maybe that’s why i’m always in the grocery store so dang long!  i know my label-readers feel me!

Phonto

i send one or two FITzee meals off with Sonny for his workday sometimes to give him more variety.  for example, the  flavorful, light, chicken tiki masala and the creamy Paleo friendly, mild, curried chicken easily fit into his daily macronutrients  (the Carbohydrates, Fats, and Protein amounts a person needs per day depending on their fitness goals. more on those to come though!).

all menu items are delivered FRESH, which means you need to refrigerate them immediately.  or just eat them all right then. if you do not eat them by the date posted on the tray, you can pop them into the freezer and they will be safe and ready to eat for an additional two months.

FITzees believe the best path to a fit and healthy exterior is to worship and nourish your interior – it all comes full circle. i could not agree more.

Screenshot_2013-09-11-23-01-19-1-1

see a pattern there? it’s so true! that has pretty much been my mantra since shifting to this lifestyle change over two years ago.  sure, ‘better’ will vary from person to person, but ‘better’ for me equates to low-no processed, wholesome, nutrient dense  foods – this keeps me running at my absolute best and i see the progress i desire in my body at a prompt rate.

that macros post is headed your way!  enjoy your thursday!

Blog Elevated Conference + peanut butta banana fudgy brownies

blogelevated

fit foodie le is headed to the Blog Elevated conference this month!!!!! i learned about this conference a few months ago and, well, everything about it grabbed my attention.  learning more about one of my favorite things to do in one of my favorite places in Houston?  um i HAVE to be there.  i must. and by the grace of God, I AM IN THAT THANG, free of charge.   i am just one big ol’ sponge ready to soak up ALL kinds of blogging knowledge.  crazy excited to say the least… this is like an overnight adult field trip.  if you’re going, well, i’ll be seeing you there then won’t i :)! i’m ready to take Fit Foodie Le to the next level baby.

everything you need to know about attending this fan-flippin-tastic  conference is right HEA.

oh you like brownies? me three. try theeeeeeese:

  • dash of salt
  • 2 tbsp Stevia for Baking blend
  • 2 tbsp agave nectar
