Esprit de She Katy 5/10K – Fit Foodie Finishers

20140508_172245_1

snapping pics at the stop light and headed to meet the ladies who signed up to brave the Esprit de She 5 & 10K races with me last night! great times.  it did NOT rain on our parade either, thank God.

CYMERA_20140509_112948

no sunshine, but it wasn’t unbearably humid either as this SOLD OUT crowd of  gorgeous, fit, ladies gathered in anticipation and excitement. just look at that turn out! there was plenty to do, too. Zumba, healthy snack samples, Yoga, and chair massages & manicures were provided by Lifetime Fitness Lifespa.  this event totally catered to the She.

CYMERA_20140509_105444

i arrived early, headed to packet pickup, and ran smack into my friend Alexia and her hubby (he came for support, how sweet!). she is 1 week ahead of me @ 36 weeks preggo and was down to pound the pavement regardless. LOVES IT!  the shirts were a gorgeous purple color this year; it’s definitely one of my fave race tanks (racerback always rules in my world) that i will be hitting the gym in for sure.  also, because i registered early (big surprise there :o ), i was able to personalize my bib. coolness.

CYMERA_20140509_110600

the Esprit de She ambassadors got a group email going a few days before the race and decided to meet up for a pre-race photo under the Athleta tent.  did it happen? i couldn’t tell ya lol, but i was there and looking around for the other ladies. Landi found me, and then we somehow found Jennifer.  nice meeting you gals <3

CYMERA_20140509_111149

my friend Eshé (top L) has been taking my gym classes since i started teaching at 24 HF eons ago! she is now a Lifetime member and is training for another triathlon later this year.  she showed the 10k who was boss last night!!! so proud of her and she looks fantastic.   Alexia and i (top R) received SO MUCH bump love!! i was truly proud to represent for the fit preggo moms out there with her, you already know.  way to GO, Alexia.  we ran into my crazy-sock wearing fitness buddies Ros (Zumba instructor extraordinaire)and Karen on the way to the start line (bottom L pic) :) lastly, i finally got a pic with my Soror, Ayesha!  she’s a fellow Coog, blogger, and Esprit de She Ambassador as well.

CYMERA_20140509_113931

before and after!

as Alexia and i wrapped up our final mile, a woman who was driving by in her truck slowed down (and shouted over a/her child in the passenger seat) ‘you’re pregnant? and running? why??’ and sped off! my response? why NOT!? :?: i should have shouted to her to follow me on Instagram. lol. if she only knew :P

i know a lot of mommies-to-be that aren’t able to run at this stage of the game as the weight and pressure of the fetus is pretty high.  however, we used common sense, checked on each other constantly, and alternated between jogging (when we felt like it) and power-walking to get through the 5k.  mission accomplished!

CYMERA_20140509_112614

post-race, you KNOW what i was lookin’ for and where i can always be found- by the fuel!  believe it or not, the line on the right was for the free bubbly LOL!  i was so happy to just walk right up and get my southwest chicken wrap(S) and salad that were provided by the always healthy and delicious Lifetime Cafe.

i had a rockin’ time and hope to return next year. with or without a baby bump ;)

HAPPY EARLY MOTHERS’ DAY <3

pan fried curry zucchini fritters + yeeeee-haw! Rodeo Run 5k

the response from my last post was incredibly overwhelming.  i’m already hormonal yall, jeez!!!! some of you even shared your heartfelt, REAL life preggo journeys with me.  it just reaffirms the fact that all women have a story to tell.  we all jump through, over, and under hoops all day, every day.  that’s life.  God is true to His word though!  i’m honored and elated that women were able to connect with me on a more personal level and get encouragement and inspiration to keep pressing through their own struggles.  we all need it.  anytime you ever feel the need to share with me or ask any particular question about my journey, do so without hesitation!  le@fitfoodiele.com.  again, thank you all for reading and commenting openly and privately.  to God be the glory.

1393811170

the Rodeo Run went down yesterday morning!  i picked up my race packet Friday and brought along a list of 3-year-old b-day party locations to check in the area.  yep, Chiso’s getting a birthday party this year.  we did a small gathering at the house last year for his 2nd and remember i went batty for his 1st  so now it’s time to venture out.  i think. suggestions? email me.

1393810819

i broke my ‘no oats pre-race’ rule and had big bowl of them topped with bananas, blueberries, and some coconut crystals before we hit the road.

1393810938

i walked/ran with a friend of mine, Krystal, and Chiso got to play and hangout with her son, Max.  Krystal is in FAB shape, right!? that’s her 9 month old daughter in her arms.  she is such a big fitsporation to me!

1393810883

grateful to still be moving and shaking at 25 weeks now. my next race is the Bayou City Classic, and the link is over there in the events side bar!  strollers are welcome, so moms, let’s do this!  email me if you’ll be there; i’d love to meet up at the post-race party.  and if you see me running, SAY HAY!!!!!

   1393819037

so about that zucchini fritter recipe i own ya…. ugh, they are so incredibly tasty.  Sonny took a bite of one and was like, ‘there’s no meat in this?’

nope.

pan fried curry zucchini fritters

the stuff: (source)

  • 3 large zucchini, shredded/grated
  • 3 green onion, chopped
  • 1/2 cup almond meal or flour
  • 1/2 cup light parmesan cheese, shredded
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1 egg white, beaten
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tbsp curry powder
  • 1-2 tbsp liquid aminos
  • 1 tsp cracked black pepper

do this:

  1. use the larger holes when grating zucchini and shred them onto a dry cup towel.
  2. use those muscles and squeeze out all the liquid possible.
  3.  add all ingredients to a large mixing bowl and incorporate well.
  4. heat a pan on HIGH coated with nonstick cooking spray (or pour a tsp of olive oil into the pan and spread it around)
  5. place heaping tbsp size scoopfuls of mixture onto hot skillet and press down flat.
  6. convert heat to LOW and cook for approx. 5 minutes on each side until golden brown and done. be patient.

i have the patience of Chiso sometimes when i’m cooking and i often end up with a scramble instead of a perfect patty or cake.  i am sooooo dang proud of how these turned out!  best ones yet and so much savory deliciousness in every bite. please enjoy them as much as we have.  i got some garlic & herb goat cheese from HEB after the race that i have been spreading on them and, well,

i really need to go to bed. now.

chevron houston marathon weekend 2014

quick announcement that may or may not affect you, my dear reader:

when i started my blog  2 years ago, i named it foodielovinle.com.  a few weeks later, i had a change of heart and felt that name didn’t really scream food and fitness, my two main loves. so, i changed it to fitfoodiele.com.  perfect! my site was searchable by either domain cause i purchased both of them.  howeverrrr, foodielovinle.com is about to expire and i’m willing to let it go, but not without telling you first! which means, if you have foodielovinle.com bookmarked in your web browser, it won’t work anymore as of yesterday. lol. better late than never.  it’s been a long weekend yall.  my site is not down or having any issues; you’ll just need to update your bookmark to http://www.fitfoodiele.com. that’s all! just a heads up! alright, on to the good stuff.

the Chevron Houston running events happened this weekend!  the 5k is now run on Saturday morning, and the half and full marathons are run on Sunday morning.  this was my very first time volunteering instead of running and i was just as excited to be up in the place and around all the action. there is always so much excitement in the air the entire weekend- from the expo inside the GRB to the actual races. the crowd, the energy… can’t get enough of that feeling.

PhotoGrid_1390263007085

Sonny thought i was crazy for leaving our nice warm bed to head downtown at 4 something in the morning to not even be running. hey, it’s just a runners thing!  i checked in with the race crew team, got a t-shirt, jacket, lanyard, and complimentary breakfast (a blueberry bagel and coffee that i just wanted to smell, not drink  ) .  then.. they put this bright yellow ‘got a question? ask me.’ vest on me and things got crazy. i didn’t have a chance to study the answers before the test  so i did the best i could. a couple of people caught me off guard with their questions and i pointed them in the direction of some help, but after that ‘where is the start line?’ was the only thing people cared to know. whew.

20140119_063230_1

before i actually headed outside though, i met up with a super sweet, longtime reader and fellow blogger & runner, Liss!! she emailed me a few days before the big race letting me know she’d be in town running and wanted to meet up.  well heck yes i agreed!  she blazed through the half marathon and finished under two hours, nice. CONGRATS to you and your hubby on finishing!  great meeting you, Liss ;)

20140119_072410_1

ok, outside i scurried and was posted up near this awesome spot. seems like every photographer (professional and amateur) stopped to get this shot before they closed it up so the runners could come through around 7:40am.

20140119_073454_1

‘if you’re gonna cross, now’s the time!’

20140119_075606_1

to witness Meb Keflezighi tear up the pavement and finish the half marathon in 1:01:23 live was AWESOME!!! since i’m always running i never get to actually witness a first place finish.  it takes me two hours to do what he did in one. mind blown.

CONGRATULATIONS to all runners!

i was literally just happy to be there.  so..why didn’t i run?  i’ve been avoiding this question. lol. turns out i hadn’t registered for the 5k like i though i had. by the time i realized i wasn’t in the system (yes, i found out at the actual Expo on Friday and almost let it ruin my entire day), the race was completely sold out.  the half and full marathons fill up months in advance, but the 5k is usually still open…but not this year! so i had to find a way to be there anyway and volunteering was the next best thing. #dumbmoment #over

my next 5k is in 5 days and over in the side bar. check it out!

mlk

happy MLK day to you.

commitment day 5k 2k14

words no one wants to hear at 3am: ‘mama, i pooped in my underwear.’

after getting Chiso all cleaned up and finally back to sleep, i woke up feeling like we had partied the night away HARD!!

nevertheless, i got up, had a small breakfast of whole wheat toast, 1 tbsp of natural, honey roasted peanut butter with a side of prenatal vitamin, water, and hit the road, ipod nano in tow.

20140101_080016_1

this is Sonny’s last day to sleep in for a while so i let my camera man get his rest.  i would have taken Chiso in the jogging stroller but he had a rough night too so i let them be until the next race (deets below).

it was a modest turnout again this year with NO rain this time and warmer weather.

the weather was chilly, but as always, as your body starts to heat up you don’t feel the cold anymore.  halfway through the race i peeled off a layer of clothes cause i was burning UP.

20140101_093439_1

always happy to see this number.  time to pick up the pace

20140101_094128_1

post race goodies: bananas, apples, sea salt and vinegar pop chips, 4 different kinds of breakfast tacos from Taco Cabana ( i chose potato and egg), H2O, Aspire beverages, and granola bars.

20140101_094715_1

one of each please.

20140101_095104_1

17 weeks preggo today yall! things are different with this pregnancy though.  i was extremely cautious when i was carrying Chiso in 2011 and i wouldn’t run more than a couple steps before stopping altogether early on.  i became a power walking pro and didn’t run for months actually.  in fact the last time i ran, Chiso was born 24 hours later.  this much needed 2nd trimester energy carried me all the way through this morning’s race- no discomfort at all!  i didn’t come close to last year’s PR of 24 mins, but i ran most of the way and finished around 33. then i packed up my goodies and headed back home. to bed.

commitmentday2013

speaking of last year, whoa! this pic was taken 1 year ago today and i still remember Sonny griping behind the camera about me going out into the cold and rain just to run 3 miles when i hadn’t fully recovered from dental surgery.  i didn’t tell my parents i had participated until after it was over. my dad let me have it anyway. i remember being super lean but comparing this pic to my current body is such an eye opener.  i was pretty much engulfed in fitness at that point. i remember setting my dental appointment to have all four of my wisdom teeth removed and just couldn’t fathom not working out for a few days and having to live life through a straw. no kidding. i was going hard 6-7 days a week in the gym and still operating in full bikini competition mode nutrition-wise (my first show was 3 months prior) and sitting down to rest and recover was just the biggest thorn in my side. in the back of my mind though, i also knew i wanted 2013 to be the year we expand our family for the second time.  as much as i loved my body on the outside,  things were the exact opposite on the inside. i’ll follow this up with its own blog post, don’t worry!

back to the race- it was awesome to see so many team members and gym members running along the route!  so many families, kiddos, strollers, and doggies running at that. i love teaching for Lifetime Fitness because they are extremely community and family centered.

20140101_105451_1

i brought the banana home to my little monkey.

next up, the Chevron Houston Marathon, Half Marathon, & 5k on January 19th!  i’ll be participating for the 6th year in a row (four 5ks and 1 half marathon).  i’ll tackle the full marathon one of these years. if you’d like to run with me and are local to Houston, EMAIL ME! le@fitfoodiele.com.

fyi, i choose my upcoming races from here.  if there is an upcoming race you are participating in, let me  know- i just might run with ya! happy 1st day of 2014, fit friends.

CYMERA_20131231_223645-1happy new year yall!  i found these unused, boxed champagne flutes in the pantry after we got home from dinner tonight and there was a gift receipt inside from September 14th, 2007, a day before our wedding, wow. time truly waits for no man.  after 6 years and counting & 1.5 kiddos, i give Him all the glory.  Sonny and i are about to write down our goals for 2014, pray over them, and have our traditional toast nye toast. i pray the one thing that stays constant for 2014 and beyond is His presence in your life!  peace, happiness, and blessings to all of you; thank you for another year of sincere love and support.

GOOD LUCK to all my Commitment Day participants running tomorrow morning!  run hard and rep for your city; see you out there!

one of my foodie gifts! already used it twice! Yonanaaaaaaaaaaas

20131226_153955_1

a fitness gift! i am ashamed to say that this is my 3rd ipod Nano  . i do not even deserve this.  but i’m grateful to have it in my life again cause i sure did miss it.  i fried my other two with my own sweat because i used my bra to house it during my workout. both times. i know.  soooooo, tomorrow i’ll be getting a nice little arm band/holder thingy to prevent that from ever happening again.  thanks Hubby. for real.

20131225_155906_1

breakfast and gift exchange at my MIL’s was earlier, then we headed to my side of town to see my folks. this was dinner plate #1 at my moms: cornbread dressing, green bean casserole, turkey breast,  deviled egg, potato salad, candied yams, hummus dip with carrots and celery, cranberry sauce, and a wheat roll. this baby can EAT.

Q: what are your NYE plans? vote below!

thanks & giving & food & family 2013

i hope Thanksgiving 2013 was one to remember for you and your family.  here’s what we did:

_72

who eats like this on Thanksgiving Eve? sammiches and sushi @ Central Market.  it wasn’t as crowded as i expected AT ALL. is it weird that i wanted it to be?

CYMERA_20131127_204432

lemon ricotta pancakes for the boy.
20131128_070352

on TG day i sped downtown to run in the traditional Turkey Trot 10k and left Sonny and Chi in our nice, warm, comfy bed :(

_2

this is THE coldest weather i have ever run in. ever. 32 dang degrees. the Chevron Houston Marathon in January isn’t even this cold!!!!
_71

so because of the dip in temp earlier that week, i switched from the 10k to the 5k y’all. keepin’ it real. i believe i have become one of those people who like cold weather but hate being cold.

i met up with some bodybuilder and UH alum friends afterwards.

IMG_5222_1

FRIENDS DON’T LET FRIENDS RUN ALONE!!!! thanks for that, Charlene ;)

20131128_160637_1

plate # who even knows from later that evening! each one was sampler style so i could get a little bit of everything of course.

always good to see and hang with my beautiful cousins!

Q: how many places did you visit on TG day? 2 for us- my MIL and then Grandma’s house.

knock, knock

supermom-2

it’s me. so if i’m going to be a nationally known blogger, i might need to blog then, huh. hi. my head is spinning with a full to-do list all day every day and i can’t even begin to tell you how much i miss blogging consistently!  even though i haven’t blogged consistently since i started  anyway, i have given my all to these ebooks for the past few months and i am sick of them!! i’m waiting on one last mandatory piece to this puzzle before i put these bad boys on out there. i do thank you sincerely for being so patient with me.  if you’ve been with me for a while, you know how me and the balance thing goes…  i’m still growing, learning, and getting better.  i’m not even gonna attempt to try to play catch up with yall this time smh, but hopefully you’ve been following me on Instagram and keeping up with me there!

PhotoGrid_1367970971980

and if you are, then you would’ve  seen my 1000th photo!!! like you haven’t seen all of these photos at one time or another  they’re just all in one place now for this nice little transformation collage.

20130511_223034

what’s new?  the Fit Foodie Finisher silicone bands are finally IN. i am super pleased at the way they turned out!  they serve as a token of appreciation for each person that commits to run with me, and hopefully they serve as a reminder to keep up the running habit.

IMG_20130510_171843

the Esprit De She 5k went down this past Thursday night juuuust before the rain storm moved on in. it was super humid at 6pm but that’s Houston for ya.   it was a great turn out despite the weather and it being their very first year!  this brings the Fit Foodie Finisher’s total to 40k for 2013 so far. AWESOMENESS.

20130511_201922

during my last visit to Walmart, i went extract crazy on accident-  i just kept seeing different flavors i wanted to try!  i got coconut, strawberry, lemon, butter, almond, vanilla, maple, and raspberry. after i got home, someone posted an IG pic of peanut butter extract. i would have gotten that too had i seen it.  anyway i’ve been trying them in my recipes:

20130506_152442

i tried the strawberry extract in yesterday’s bowl of oats.  i cooked them in water, unsweetened vanilla almond milk, vanilla extract, strawberry extract, cinnamon, and stevia, then topped them with fresh strawberries.  Chiso ate that UP!

20130506_152424

divine.

20130506_094145

next, i tried some of the maple extract in those cakes up there. this recipe is featured in my ebook!  maple banana oatbran pancakes…and check their stats:

245 cals – 4g fat – 10g fiber – 12g natural sugar – 16g protein

20130509_213108

so this pic got a lotta IG love, wow! i’m as excited about this super healthy, low-calorie, sweet potato pizza crust as you are.

20130509_213716
i topped my pizza with low sodium pizza sauce, yellow and orange mini peppers, cilantro, zucchini, extra lean ground chicken, and jalapeno jack almond cheese.

and ate the entire thing, solo.

ohwells

did i EVER picture myself  as a published author? heck no!  but when you follow your passion and do what truly makes your heart happy, that’s when the magic happens.  this book is just one of the many doors health and fitness has opened for me… i’m extremely excited, nervous, yet READY for whatever the future holds!  THANK YOU for reading, supporting, and being apart of my journey.

Esprit De She 5k + glute bridges

IMG_20130501_085642

breakfaaaast this morning!  just an egg white omelette chock-full of kale, roma tomatoes, baby bella mushrooms, mrs. Dash onion & herb seasoning. cheddar almond cheese, sriracha and avo on top. super filling!

let’s get physical.

Phonto

basic glute bridge: with your head on the floor and heels on  the bench or floor, raise your hips off the ground while squeezing your glutes and pressing your heels into the step or floor.  when your glutes are level with your hips, stop. lower and repeat.  mix it up with different counts- singles and pulses set those buns on  FIRE

leg variations:

  • left foot on your right knee (pictured) 12 x 2
  • right foot on your left knee (pictured) 12 x 2
  • right leg extended at hip level (pictured) 12 x 2
  • right leg straight up in the air 12 x 2
  • left leg extended at hip level 12 x 2
  • left leg extended up in the air 12 x 2
  • heels down, toes up 12 x 2

tips:

  • this can be done on the floor without the bench; alway make sure your surface is stable. an elevated surface provides a wider range of motion to perform the exercise.
  • keep a neutral chin; slighty tucked in towards your chest
  • avoid pushing your hips too high as this can hyperextend your back
  • you should feel this primarily in your glutes. if you feel lower back discomfort, try doing them without elevation.

have fun!

IMG_20130501_124631

i added a new recipe to the ebook today- roasted, curried cauli (as in cauliflower) mash.  i used to eat broccoli and cheese like nobody’s business but neither one of them are kind to my tummy. soooo, this was a great, flavorful replacement.  i also had some roasted butternut squash sprinkled with cinnamon, and pan seared lemon pepper tilapia.

IMG_20130501_110020

are you on IG? of course you are. i’m doing @fitnessfoodandstyle’s May Photo A Day challenge this month cause i love me some Dani and it looks fun! you should join me.

The Color Run 5k – Houston

what.a.BLAST this morning!  this was my first time participating in the The Color Run 5k and imo,  everything was set up perfectly.  because i have a goal of hosting my own 5k one day, i took special note of well, everything.  instead of just showing up to run, i tried my best to pay attention to all the minor details that go into making a 5k (or any distance really) so great, fun, and memorable.  and BOY am i overwhelmed!!! but hey:

dreams

never settle for good, mediocre, or average because you weren’t created to do good, mediocre, or average things!

IMG_20130323_184114

packet pickup was at Rei and i had never even been inside the store until then.  there was soooo much Color Run paraphernalia to choose from it’s not even funny!  shorts, fanny packs, drawstring back packs, tanks, frisbees, bandanas, socks,

20130324_163303

and sunglasses!

IMG_20130324_135504

pre-race breakfast was an egg-white omelette (with some shredded and melted parmesan cheese that was thrown on top as it cooked), fresh spinach, tomato, and honey mustard on Nature’s Own double fiber wheat bread.  no oatmeal this time as it can come back to haunt ya real quick if you know what i mean, especially on longer runs.  no pun intended. L O L.   however 5k’s are over rather quickly.

20130324_084028

that’s my sweet, fab, supportive friend Kara!

our driver (Sonny) so graciously snapped some pics of us right after we jumped outta the truck and headed to the start line.

20130324_085037

i met up with more great friends on our way to the start line- hey Roberto, Ana, and Kara’s fingers! *waving*

20130324_084849

i had NO idea how popular this run was!!!  our team was set for takeoff at 9am, but we didn’t make it all the way to the front as it was just too crowded.  to avoid so many people on the course at once, they created several ‘waves’ and our start time was unexpectedly pushed back more than a little bit.  this was terrible because somebody had to drive back across town to teach class in less than 2 hours. yep….me. when i signed up for the race i was so excited about participating i forgot about my class!!!! pushing it, yes, but i knew both could be done.  i can’t and won’t let my members down. or waste 50 bucks

20130324_090651

i heard somebody was not feelin’ the weather change this morning. it dropped to around 50 degrees outta no where.

20130324_094900

but we finished strong. it was bob and weave, stop and go the entire way. this was the first untimed race i’ve ever participated in and it was a true fun run with an emphasis on fun! people were clearly not concerned with breaking any PR’s lol.   it’s a huge, family and friends type event for sure, and i DEFINITELY recommend this race for anybody’s very first 5k.

20130324_095054

the Fit Foodies meant business though! we turned on our heart rate monitors and did our thing. Kara and i pretty much have the same running pace, so we started and finished together.

20130324_095220

alright…had this dressing tonight and it’s  definitely gonna be added to the FFL approved list!  Walden Farms Raspberry Vinaigrette.  it’s great as a salad dressing, but i’m positive it would work as a marinade for fish or chicken too.  try it! i like.
