  1. in a large pot on medium-high heat, add olive oil. add garlic & onion and sauté for about 1 minute. add turkey. break up the meat with your spoon and brown until just cooked all the way through (about 5-7 min)
  2. add all spices and stir until combined
  3. add tomato sauce, all diced veggies, beans, and broth; stir until combined. add corn masa/meal and stir, then put the top on your pot and set the heat to high. once boiling, reduce heat (make sure you can see bubbles on the surface) and let simmer for 15 minutes, covered
  4. done! top with fresh cilantro, avocado, green onion, and cheese. this will taste better and better (and will thicken as well) as the flavors marry! you can still eat it right away.
Recipe Notes

how you like your chili (tight or loose) depends on how much liquid you add.  i kept it at 1/2 cup of broth, and the addition of the masa gives it a thicker texture and deeper flavor as it simmers.
